Archival Processing Supervisor:
Seeking an experienced and collaborative archivist/librarian with familiarity of archival best practices to lead a team of archival processors and onsite logistics staff on an exciting project to process and prepare materials for digitization. This position requires overseeing initial arrangement, description and materials rehousing activities for efficient processing of a large multi-year project. The individual in the role will need to set aggressive timelines and schedules, evaluating outcomes and overseeing quality control for materials handling all while creating efficient and measurable workflows. This position requires aligning processing activities of the team with other non-archival logistics teams and large scale offsite digitization teams with multiple stakeholders. Critical characteristics of the successful applicant are flexibility, ability to delegate and to work with multiple stakeholders, capable of modifying practices to align with a large scale project needs. Experience working within corporate and/or government age organizations is highly desirable.
Trains, leads and supervises a team of archival processors and operations coordinators of various levels of experience
Move and oversee movement of collections from archive to processing area to palletization area
Enter tracking and barcode information into proprietary tracking and chain of custody systems
Palletize and oversee palletization of materials to specification
Align collections inventory to manifests and tracking systems
Responsible for delivering a high through-put of processed materials with correct labelling and description for daily/weekly movement to an offsite archival digitization location.
Aligns processing efforts to operational processes
Oversees the return of materials post digitization to archive shelving
Functions as the conduit and critical communication link for processing between key stakeholders including multiple corporate entities, historical agency archivists, and operations teams
The position is for one year with the potential for renewal over five years for the right candidate
Masters degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent experience in a professional archival setting
Demonstrated experience with basic preservation and conservation standards for archival and manuscript collections
Demonstrated experience in arranging, describing, and processing of archival collections
Proven capability in bringing projects to completion
Flexibility and ability to function well in an environment where changes will be consistent
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communications and analytical ability.
Ability to initiate and embrace non-standard and unique approaches to collection management and processing
Ability to work independently and to follow directions with ease and efficiency
Positive attitude and ability to deliver results under pressure
