Supervise and lead secure shred destruction staff to create and sustain a culture focused on operational excellence, as well as maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Job activities include, but are not limited to adhering to the standards of the 5S Workplace Program to promote consistency with tasks, workplace layouts and workflow; proficient use of the tools within the management operating system (MOS) and operational excellence program (OER) to increase workplace optimization; compliance with all safety and security policies as well as the staffing leverage model to ensure safety of employees, proper handling of equipment and protection of customer information; the ability to lead, train and develop staff demonstrating behaviors consistent with our core values.
Destruction Operations – Provide ongoing, direct supervision to staff in plant activities related to safety, security, staffing, sorting and production. Have a general understanding of forecasting, planning, and assigning tasks in an effort to attain optimization goals, driving plant performance based on metrics. Interface with transportation and/or dispatch manager on a daily basis to address all concerns regarding service quality and customer satisfaction. Manage non-exempt staff to ensure plant compliance with respect to standard operating procedures, NAID certification and safety and security policies. Ability to react to and adjust labor and other variables, driving throughput to sustain or exceed financial goals. Demonstrate leadership and commitment by proactively engaging with plant nonexempt staff - including hands on, daily interaction with team on the production floor. Identify and recommend changes to Destruction/Plant Manager as needed. Perform or oversee repairs to equipment as needed to ensure operationally safe when in production. Load and unload vehicles as required and verify accuracy of deliveries and pickups. Maintain security of material, trucks and facility. Provide training (new hire and continuing education) for all staff as needed. Understanding of OSHA, PPE and NAID requirements to assist Destruction/Plant Manager with compliance. Ability to take the role as Plant Manager as needed and perform other duties as assigned. As needed, perform “hands on” work assisting staff with loading/unloading vehicles, operating equipment and other tasks when needed. Conduct daily site inspections consistent with internal and external audit requirements to ensure plant is compliant at all times.
Human Resources – Assist Destruction/Plant Manager with hiring, developing and managing the performance of staff. Ability to train staff on relevant company policies, safety and security procedures and OSHA and NAID requirements. Work with Destruction/Plant manager to promptly handle and courteously respond to employee inquires and/or concerns. Ability to understand team dynamics and communicate effectively, providing timely and constructive feedback as needed. Prepare and deliver performance appraisals to staff in accordance with guidelines. Ability to identify, manage and proactively respond to employee relations issues, while partnering with Destruction/Plant Manager and HR as appropriate. Communicate company information, plant updates, initiatives and program roll-outs as needed.
General understanding of budgets and financial statements as well as background with manufacturing methods and process improvement programs.
Experience with various IT applications / databases (Excel, Access, Word, etc.).
Support and maintain employee centric programs, fostering a work environment conducive to positive employee relations (and consistent with our PERL program).
This role will supervise all aspects of shred plant production and lead by consistently demonstrating the Core Values expected of an Iron Mountain employee. Consistent application of all standard operating procedures as well as ensure safety and security of all staff.
The ability to identify barriers to success, analyze and develop solutions to variables that can negatively impact all aspects of plant operations, including employee relations.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues and individuals inside and outside of the company. Ability to work in a team environment as well as individually; exhibit a professional manner when dealing with others to maintain constructive working relationships.
Manufacturing type environment at times requiring dust masks and/or ear plugs; ability to pick up heavy material (70lbs to 100lbs) and/or push as much as 200lbs; required to walk production floor, work with and direct employees with shred machinery and equipment; ability to operate PIT (and other equipment) as licensed. Work gloves required when handling and sorting materials for destruction. Safety glasses required. Steel toe shoes required. Temperatures on production floor can sometimes be equivalent to external temperatures.
Local and overnight travel varies depending on district; can average 10-30% and is subject to change.
Licenses & Certifications Required: PIT License (preferred).
Education/Experience: High School Diploma or 2 - 4 years supervisory experience in an Operations / Production / Manufacturing environment.
